Jesus said “… I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10)

He also said “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies” (John 11:25)

Again He said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6).

Elsewhere, He told us “Do not store up for yourselves, treasures on earth…but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…”(Matt 6:19-20)

And further, “…for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”(Matt 6:21). 

He told the rich young ruler to sell everything he had and give the money to the poor and follow Him (Luke 18:21-23).

Jesus’ abundant life is He, Himself. The abundant life He came to give is His Resurrection Life given to us in our being crucified with Him – being dead, yet shall we live! His abundant life is found in our denial of our own life in the flesh – Having been crucified with Christ… it is no longer I who lives but Christ living in me (Galatians 2:20).

Jesus is clearly not telling us that the abundant life He came to give is related to anything earthly! The abundant life is His life in us! What life can be more abundant than His life?? What can exceed in value, the life of Christ?

So how do we have abundant life? We reckon ourselves as dead that He might live through us!

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:11)

We can join with Paul in saying that “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).

That death is now and that abundant life is now!
